Franny Haight, Textile Exploration, 2024, ink and yarn on paper, (1) 8” x 10”, (2) 5.25” x 8”, (3) 3.25” x 5”

This series originated from my desire to try a less technical approach to printmaking, emphasizing intuitive creation over rigid methodology. Each piece in this collection is unique, but they all explore the integration of fibers and textiles into prints. These works used knit scraps that were repurposed as printing tools, leaving their intricate textures imprinted directly onto the paper. This unconventional approach yielded unpredictable yet captivating results, as the fibers interacted with the printing surface in unexpected ways, creating a curious interaciton of textures. The intial prints acted as a foundation for the work to be built upon. Using an array of threads and yarns, I delicately stitched over the printed patterns, adding layers of depth and intricacy to each composition. This fusion of printmaking and embroidery enhanced the pieces' visual richness and inspired a tactile quality that invites viewers to engage with the artwork on a sensory level.
